Used John Deere Equipment Making a Comeback at P&K Equipment in Oklahoma

On the Road with Machinery Pete and P&K Equipment in Oklahoma

In this episode, On the Road with Machinery Pete takes us to P&K Equipment in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Although weather conditions within the state are always considered to be unpredictable, this past winter has been the driest on record, presenting challenges for many throughout the area. Due to a severe lack of rain, ranchers such as Jarold Callahan of Express Ranches in Yukon, OK are forced to consider what to do for forage since hay crops are not growing like they should.

Despite these concerns, Callahan points out certain things that are working well for his ranch, including round balers and net wraps that allow him to make the most out of his bales.

Increased Interest in Used John Deere Equipment

At P&K Equipment in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Site Manager Shane Clifton has experienced the challenges of these conditions firsthand. Inconsistent weather patterns have impacted purchase decisions within his area, which can be linked to apprehensiveness over growing conditions as of late, showcased by Callahan’s ranch in Yukon.

Machinery Pete notes that although the market itself is difficult to generalize as a whole, smaller pieces of equipment seem to be doing the best, including utility tractors, lawn care equipment, combines, and 4WD tractors. At his John Deere dealership, Clifton has seen interest in older equipment gaining strength, as well, meaning growth in sales for older model machines, especially combines.

This interest in older equipment proves to be a good sign, especially due to the conditions that have been taking over more than half of the state. As the rain continues to be held back, equipment dealers hope that purchases of these older model machines will continue to rise steadily and can continue to have a positive impact on the market as a whole.
